今回、『Right timeが来た!』

Max Strom, Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa, Dharma Mittra, Seane Corn, Nicki Doanne,Mark Whitwell,Janet Stone

From Maiko's blog

At last, I am doing it: Yoga Alliance-recognized 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training.

Since taking my own 200-hour course at Semperviva Yoga in 2007, being a lead teacher for a 200-hour YTT has probably always been one of my goals.

Now the right time has arrived, and I decided to hold it.

Thank you to Yoga Generation for inviting me, and to YOGA FOR EVERY BODY for the support.

Since 2010, I have been part of Semperviva's 200-hour training team, supporting Japanese participants when they attended and assisting the whole group when they did not.

I worked in Vancouver from 2010 to 2012 and supported online through Zoom afterward.

I cannot remember how many trainings I joined — so many experiences and so much learning from the teaching side.

Semperviva's training forms the foundation of this course.

Each intake had around forty to sixty students and a team of approximately six teachers, including me.

Vancouver, especially Kitsilano where the studio was located, brought participants of many ages, exercise backgrounds, races, and languages. Many people besides Japanese students did not speak English as their first language: truly YOGA FOR EVERY BODY.

Details and information sessions:

One intake ranged from age eighteen to seventy-four. Nationalities, genders, and bodies differed — everyone's skeleton is unique. Difference was simply normal.

With Gloria as head teacher and instructors from different yoga backgrounds, we learned balanced yoga fundamentals.

Throughout training, amid difference and the understanding that there is no single right answer, we repeatedly asked: “What do you choose?”

This develops the ability to choose in philosophy, asana, sequencing, class design, and the kind of yoga you teach.

We study what instructors need to know in two hundred hours — Hatha foundations, poses, philosophy, history, anatomy — then ask what we choose from that.

Teacher training is more than acquiring yoga knowledge. It is time for personal growth through many experiences.

We also practice a lot and encounter many classes and teachers.

Through lectures and practice we expand our resources, both as instructors and as people.

Semperviva's YTT included workshops with international master teachers. As a student and trainer I experienced classes with Max Strom, Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa, Dharma Mittra, Seane Corn, Nicki Doane, Mark Whitwell, Janet Stone, and others. It was more than learning techniques or methods.

People often asked me to recommend a YTT. I would say, “Semperviva's training — but you can't take it in Japan.”

Then the studio closed in 2020 during COVID, and its 200-hour training was no longer available.

The course I lead from April is based on Semperviva's training, together with what I have learned and experienced as an instructor and practitioner before and since.

I am the lead teacher, but wonderful instructors in Japan and overseas, including GO, Santoshima, Maki, Sarah, and my mentor Gloria, will participate. More teachers not yet listed online may join.

The support team also includes Kotomi and Yoga Generation colleagues, plus Miya, ORINA, MARI, and CHIAKI from YOGA FOR EVERY BODY. Such reassuring people!

This is a 200-hour training created by a wonderful team. I will introduce the teachers and supporters in Part 2.

There is so much to write that it is hard to organize.

I truly love Semperviva's yoga and community, and have long wanted to share it in Japan. I expanded that community through BRIGHTON Studio DAIKANYAMA; now I will share the yoga I believe in through training.

More to come in Part 2.
