”再利用” と一言にいうとイメージが人それぞれ異なるかと思います。

ざっくりとした、説明なのでこれをきっかけに気になる方は、色々調べてみてくださいね。

「リサイクル」 は、素材をそれぞれの方法で、”資源” としてもどし、また、製品として作り直すという事。

「アップサイクル」（今回のsatanama sandal）は、その "物自体" を、新しい価値として別の製品として生まれ変わらせるという事です。

僕たちsatanama sandal チームは、リサイクルのように、物を回収しそれを”資源”に戻すことはできません。

身近にある使ってきたヨガマットを、廃棄していくたびに、これをそのまま廃棄していくことに、いつも戸惑いがありました。

再資源化される物（素材）は、正しい方法で捨てることで”資源化” され再度、製品として生まれ変わっていくのでその事を考えて、廃棄すること。その先のイメージをしっかりと考えることで正しい方法で廃棄をしようとなりますね。

ただ、もう一つの戸惑いは、ヨガマットの生活の中での位置づけがあります。 ヨガマットの生活の中での位置づけは、人それぞれですが、スタジオは勿論や日々の暮らしの中で大切にしている方も多いのです。

オーダーメイドのSUNは、”思い出”　という、気持ちに寄り添う物でもあります。

また、その先のMOONも、SUNの端切れから生まれるものですので、オーダーいただいた方も、こうして新たに生まれ変わっていき誰かのもとで大切に使われていく事を想像してもらうと、なんだか、嬉しい気持ちになりますよね。

マットの素材に関しては改めて触れますが、素材によっては、再資源化という部分では１００％ではありませんし、再資源化、以前に ”ゴミ” の削減といったところまで踏み込むとそれ自体の課題も見えてきます。 Aa

The word “reuse” can mean different things to different people. This is a broad explanation, so if it sparks your interest, please explore further.

Recycling means returning materials to resources through appropriate processes, then making products from them again.

Upcycling, as in satanama sandal, means giving the object itself a new value by transforming it into a different product.

Our satanama sandal team cannot collect objects and turn them back into raw resources as recycling does.

Whenever we disposed of familiar yoga mats we had used, we felt uneasy about simply throwing them away.

Materials that can be recycled become resources and new products again when disposed of correctly. Thinking about what happens next encourages us to use the proper disposal methods.

But another reason for our hesitation is the place a yoga mat holds in daily life. This differs from person to person, but many people value their mats deeply, both at studios and in their everyday lives.

Our custom-made SUN sandals also honor the feelings attached to memories.

MOON sandals are made from the offcuts left when making SUN. It feels good to imagine the remaining pieces of your mat being transformed and treasured by someone else.

We will discuss mat materials separately, but depending on the material, recyclability is not 100%. Looking beyond recycling to reducing waste itself reveals further challenges.
